Cognitive flexibility has been described as the mental ability to switch between thinking about two different concepts, and to think about multiple concepts simultaneously. In a fight sport context, Specific Neuro drills allow for the athlete to prime neural networks for specific movements, in other words, to ‘task switch,’ with striking combinations in response to changing conditions (in this case, a different color light stimuli). Inside the octagon a fighter relies on sensory processing at a fast speed. As the athlete’s brain processes this sensory information it refines neural circuitry that suppress distracting and irrelevant inputs. Reinforcing these neural connections mitigates error prone movement and hesitation because a split second makes a huge difference. These factors are part of the Mental Flow Equation; the default factor of becoming interwoven with one’s precise actions. Fight Sport NeuroPerformance Training.
